  • Operations Manager 2007 & Essentials 2007 Deliver Support for Windows Server 2008

    The System Center Operations Manager team is excited to announce support of Windows Server 2008 by Operations Manager 2007 SP1 and Essentials 2007 SP1.  This enables both Operations Manager 2007 and Essentials 2007 to successfully monitor, as well as be installed upon, the Windows Server 2008 platform. 

    Installing the core Operations Manager and Essentials roles, and their agents, on Windows Server 2008: Supported scenarios are as shown in the below table and will require installation of new hotfixes for Windows Server 2008, Operations Manager 2007 SP1 and/or Essentials 2007 SP1.

    Details on the hotfixes:

    The following hotfixes are all required to support both the installation of Operations Manager 2007 roles and Essentials 2007 on a WS08 platform, as well as install the Operations Manager agent on a WS08 platform, (i.e., to monitor that server and its workloads).

    • Hotfixes for Operations Manager 2007 and Essentials 2007 are covered in two KB articles:
      • KB953141 – The main article for the Operations Manager 2007 and Essentials 2007 support with Windows Server 2008, discussing known issues, caveats, and hotfix requirements (with links to all relevant information).
      • KB954049 – includes  the whole set of hotfixes required for Operations Manager 2007 SP1 and Essentials 2007 SP1 to run on Windows Server 2008
    • Hotfixes to Windows Server 2008.
      • There are 4 hotfixes (KB952664, KB953290, KB951327, KB951116) that are now available that should be applied to Windows Server 2008 servers where Operations Manager or MOM 2005 are (or will be) installed.

    Note:  All hotfixes are initially delivered in English-only.  Localization of these fixes (where required) will take approximately 2 additional weeks.

  • System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 Release Candidate Now Available

    The release candidate for Service Pack 1 for Operations Manager 2007 is ready for download from https://connect.microsoft.com/systemcenter.  If you haven't already registered you'll need to do so before the RC is available under 'Available Connections.'

    The high level themes of this service pack are:

    • Address critical customer initiated issues including roll-up of all hotfixes
    • Make the product easier to support
    • Make the product easier to use
    • Make the product easier to deploy

    Key things to note:

    • Read the accompanying release notes and upgrade guide and carefully follow the instructions.
    • This is a fully supported release - support is available via the standard Microsoft Support channels and also via our public Newsgroups Microsoft.public.opsmgr.sp1
    • The release candidate will be fully upgradable to the final RTM release of SP1 (currently scheduled for mid-February 2008)

  • Operations Manager 2007 SP1 (RC) next week

    We have had this information under NDA for some time now, but Clive Eastwood is making it generally public: System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1, release candidate, will be available next week. There will be two hotfix KB articles being released in conjunction with the OpsMgr07 Service Pack 1 Release Candidate. This will be required if multihoming an SP1 RC (eventually SP1 RTM) agent to an Operations Manager 2007 original release management server. This fix needs to be installed on the Opsmgr original release management server. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941557This hotfix will also be present on the SP1 Release candidate images for the 120-day Eval edition for SP1 RC (Slipstreamed), together with the SP1 RC upgrade image in the SupportTools/Hotfix/Release folder : SystemCenterOpsMgr07-RTM-KB941557-X86-AMD64-ENU.MSI.

  • Microsoft Web Sites and Services Management Pack for MOM 2005

    Note: Added SQL 2005 support for reporting. This MP works on SQL 2000 and 2005 SQL Reporting Service. The Web Sites and Services Management Pack can be used to monitor availability and performance of Web sites and services by performing HTTP requests against the monitored entities. When monitoring Web sites, the user can configure the management pack to monitor a stand-alone URL (equivalent of a HTTP “ping”), to monitor a Web page complete with resources (like images and scripts), to validate links on a Web page, and to monitor a Web application.The Management Pack will measure availability and performance and can validate response content. It can be configured to alert on certain conditions or to simply collect the measured values.     Microsoft has just released the Operations Manager 2007 Design Guide to their download website.This is really worth the read. The paper has good information about sizing, especially hardware requirements versus number of agents, which can be a real pain point for your deployment, if sized too small.
